The Cigar Box Guitar Company started out as a one man shop dedicated to the continued evolution of this truly american instrument. It continues to develop new and exciting CBG instruments and amps as a subsidiary of GUITAR FUEL Performance Products.
We custom build standard CBG (3 string), tenor (4 string) and our signature LBG model ( 6 or 8 string) which incorporates elements of a lap steel, resophonic guitar and banjo with a sound all its own! Annual production is limited and all builds are on a custom order basis only. We also offer rockin' CBG amplifiers and kits for the DIY folks which are available for sale through GUITAR FUEL's website.
If you've never played a CBG (or LBG) before you're in for a treat. With their roots steeped in slavery, the civil war and southern blues these little boxes produce some mighty big tones!
Each instrument is truly one-of-a-kind! We even incorporate a proprietary sound post design to achieve the best tone possible. All of our acoustic models include an Artec preamp and PC-85 piezo cable to capture every note with stunning clarity. Electric models offer a choice of Artec magnetc pickups and the ultimate acoustic-electric CBG the awesome MB-1 Master Blender circuit.
With a continuously updated inventory of hand selected wood and paper covered wood cigar boxes, we then add a hand shaped neck made of a variety of hardwoods including red oak, maple and poplar. The fretted rosewood, oak or maple fingerboards are adorned with beautiful abalone inlays. Hard maple ebony capped bridge, bone nut, rolled brass tailpiece and a string through design provide loads of sustain.
We offer a selection of quality pickups from our favorite vintage "blade style" single coil and humbucker versions to the 1960s lipstick style. Also, optional ARTEC Active Tone Circuits for a whole new sound experience are available for any model!
We use only the best wood and paper covered wood cigar boxes that pass our "tap test" to ensure only the highest quality bear The Cigar Box Guitar Company logo.
